Gifts for Mothers Day

I was going to write about gifts in general in this weeks blog entry but seeing is Mothers Day is now only 1 week away I thought maybe we should focus on our fabulous mums. Truth be told most mums probably don’t want extravagant gifts and lots of money spent on them. I know for my mum the gifts of time and effort have always been far more valuable.

My earliest mothers day memory is from when I was about 6 (making my little sister 4 and my older brother 8) and we had decided to surprise our mum with breakfast in bed! Seemed like great idea to us…. what could go wrong I hear you ask. The cards were done, having been made at school the week before, so the 3 of us work up early and headed downstairs (I would say tip-toed as I am sure we thought thats what we were doing but I am sure reality would not agree). It was all going well, we made the tea and toast without incident and loaded it all onto a tray with out homemade cards and set off up the stairs! Uh oh! This bit wasn’t as easy. With me leading the way and my big brother closely behind precariously balancing the tray we almost made it! I think we were about tree quarters of the way up before my brother lost his concentration and the whole lot when crashing down the stairs and landed in a messy heap on the floor. My mum, who must have been listening to everything from her room came running out and far from being cross was so touched with the effort we had gone to.

So thats the moral folks give your mum the gift or time and effort this mothering Sunday and you can’t go wrong.

That being said, all mums love a card and you get some brilliant perosnalised ones these days. And below are a few gift ideas that are a bit different from the traditional flowers and chocolate.

I know shamelessly plugging my own wares but honestly punting in Cambridge is a really lovely gift. At Lets Go Punting you can purchase both 4 and 12 seater chauffeured punting tours with gourmet picnic as gift vouchers. The gourmet picnics are supplied in a traditional hamper with extra and blankets whether you choose to have them on the punt or on the riverside. Additionally any of the services provided can be sold as a gift voucher, for example wine tasting punting tours or afternoon tea. Go with your mum and spend some quality time together.

This is a lovely one for the girls, a great way to spend some quality time together. Sisters, why not club together and all take mum out for the day. Spoil her with treats including massages and hot tubs. Search online for local spas and health clubs in your area. If you are local to the Cambridgeshire area then I recommend contacting Huntingdon Spa.

I am looking forward to spending a lovely relaxing day with my mum and I hope you are too.
