My first punting lesson ever

What I’ve thought about Punting before I tried it…

Punting always looked extremely easy from the riverside or when going on a tour. Laughing at self-hires at my weekends at Quayside with the other chauffeures belonged to my everyday activities as I could have done it better than those unfortunate people who try to avoid falling into the water while constantly crashing into each other.

What could make punting difficult? You’ve got a boat, a pole and you just glide along the River Cam.

Just have a look at this 3-year-old punting! Easy!

My first punting lesson

Just like my first punting tour, my first punting lesson happened with – surprise – Liam, one of the friendliest, funniest guys ever. He patiently tried to teach me how to hold the pole, keep the balance, turn and move the boat, with more or less success…

After almost falling into the water at least 3 times, I revaluated my thoughts towards self hires and I’ve also promised to never-ever laugh at them again.

Will I keep my promise? Who knows…

Questions that came to my mind while punting:

1. Why is the pole so heavy?

2. Why is the boat moving towards this direction rather than that?

3. How cold is the water?

 4. How deep is the water?

5. Why are my legs shaking?

6. How come ducks are staring at me in a weird way?

Of course, we have recorded my first punting lesson ever, and shared it on Youtube.

Try not to laugh!
