Bank Holiday Mondays don’t come any stranger than this one! Our punts were graced by the posterior presence of two living football legends, one of the Spice Girls and their families!!
David Beckham and Ian Wright were relaxing with us over the weekend having coincidentally made two independent anonymous bookings; we presume using their agents as foils. Obviously, it’s all about not giving the game away ahead of their visit and we would like to think that we did our best to protect their families’ privacy whilst out on the Cam.
Since their visit we have inevitably been caught up in a media whirlwind parrying calls from The Sun, Daily Mail in addition to our local Cambridge News desk….One thing is for sure, it’s been a huge compliment to our business that Victoria and David chose Let’s Go Punting to spend an hour relaxing on ‘The Backs’…..certainly a bright feather in the cap of a small family run business. Could we be the Dolce & Gabana of the Punting industry in Cambridge??….doubtful. We would like to take the chance to thank our brilliant staff who have all worked so hard to raise the “Let’s go Punting” company profile on Tripadvisor over the last four years. We feel that there is no coincidence that we rank highest when it come to customer reviews, which let’s face it, are the only ones that matter!!
Mike and Ed had the pleasure of taking the Beckhams on the Cam and we have asked them to say a few words about spending time with the nation’s modern day Royal family:
It was totally surreal at first….to have ‘A’ listers such as the Beckham’s on my boat, pretty epic! The family decided to have longer than the usual 50 mins; in the end we must have been out there 1 hour 20mins.
We found a quieter stretch of the “Backs” and David tried Punting, acknowledging that “it’s harder than it looks!”, the family were very relaxed and they seemed to really enjoy the whole experience. There wasn’t even too much fuss from the other river users, it’s always handy to have a guide to to get you out of difficult situations on the river but that’s not normally used to avoid pictures being taken!!
I thought it would take a while to readjust once the security team had whisked the Beckam’s away but who should be on the next punt leaving…..Ian Wright!!! Two England football ledgends in one day….they’re like buses!
