What happens if its raining when I have booked to go punting?

When people ask questions about rain, we usually provide them with the following answers: there are two options in poor weather, which are listed below.

Option 1Light Rain. If the rain is not too heavy we will still go, we have umbrellas and blankets on the boat.

Option 2Heavy Rain. We will still go ahead if you would like. Alternatively we will offer the event organiser a voucher to return by prior arrangement within 6 months of the original departure date or offer a 70% refund.

Will I get a refund if I cancel?

Questions regarding to our Cancellation Policy are on the top of the list as well. The following 2 options are available if you cancel at least 72 hours in advance (for bookings cancelled less than 72 hours in advance, no refund is guaranteed):

Option 1 – You may consider your original booking as a voucher and return with it by prior arrangement within 6 months for both private and shared tours. Tickets are also transferable and may be given to someone else to use.

Option 2 – We can refund 70% of the value on Private Tours.

COVID-19 – If anyone in your party receives a positive COVID-19 test result you are eligible for a full refund or reschedule (if the new time & date is more expensive then the difference will be due) as long as you meet the following criteria:

  1. You must alert us by 9 am on the day of your booking.
  2. You must provide proof of a positive PCR test result or positive LFT result which has been uploaded to the NHS website.

Can we just turn up or should we book in advance?

For such questions, we always provide one answer. Yes,  you can just turn up for both shared and private tours, but you will pay higher prices as illustrated on the ‘shared tour tickets‘ and ‘private tour tickets‘ pages of the website. The website prices are heavily discounted and you are guaranteed a specific time if you book a private boat in advance.

Will I receive a ticket?

Yes, you will receive an email booking confirmation once payment has been received. Please either bring this with you on a smart phone or tablet to show to the cashier or print it out and bring it with you.

Can I book over the phone?

The answer is yes; you can always give us a call to make arrangements or payments and ask questions over the phone. Electronic invoices which can be paid online can also be sent. Bookings can also be made directly via the website. Cheques and bank transfers are also accepted.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

You are very welcome to bring your own food and drinks onboard. Please bring plastic glasses/flutes as opposed to glass. If booking a seat on a shared tour, please be considerate of those around you when consuming any refreshments.

Can you organise food and drinks for us?

For private chauffeured tours we can provide a selection of delicious picnics. We also cater for larger events and can provide bespoke catering quotes. Champagne, Prosecco, Alcohol free Prosecco and Water are available to pre order on private tours. We also offer a selection of beers, ciders, spirit and mixers and soft drinks available for events.

Our tour is a special occasion, can we decorate our boat?

We have no objection to you decorating your boat with balloons/flowers but please be aware that the boat is unlikely to be available before your tour time.

I have young children is it safe?

Punting is an incredibly safe activity. That being said we usually advise parents/carers with young children to position the children in the middle of the punts and make sure they are not putting their hands on or over the edge of the punt. The punts are very stable and will not tip over.

Do you provide life jackets?

Punting is extremely safe but we do have a limited supply of children’s life jackets available. If you think you will require a life jacket please let us know in advance.

What can we do with our child's pram/stroller?

You are welcome leave it at our punt station. Alternatively there is usually space for you to fold it up and take it on the boat with you.

What is the minimum age to go punting?

There is no minimum age but under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Shared Tour Tickets are not available for my selected date?

If shared tour tickets are unavailable for your selected date it will be because tickets have sold out. We have a set number of reduced price tickets available per day. If e-tickets have sold-out please do come down to our check in on the corner of Jesus Green where our cashier will assist you in booking on to the next available departure.

How can I book a time for a shared tour?

When booking your shared tour ticket you will be asked to select a time. If you have booked via a third party site and have not been given a time please contact us to get booked onto a specific departure to avoid a long wait on arrival.

I've bought a ticket through a third party, do I need to book in?

When booking via a third party you are not given the option to select a departure time. Once you have purchased your ticket please contact us to arrange your departure time.

Is it normal to tip the chauffeur?

This is entirely up to you, if you feel the service you received from your chauffeur warrants a tip please feel free to do so.

What if I can't get into the boat?

The acid test is to be able to sit on the floor and get up again. If you can do this then you can go punting! Our chauffeurs will be there with a helping hand.

Do you have disabled access?

We do not have a ramp to the boats but can help people who require assistance onto the boats. Please call ahead of time to discuss your requirements.

Do we have to do the return trip or can we just go one way?

One way private tours are available (approx 25 minutes) but the price remains the same as a return trip as the boat still has to return.

Do you offer self hire?

Unfortunately at this time we don’t.

Can we try punting ourselves?

Time allowing you will be able to try punting yourself if you want to near the end of your tour once the boat is back at Quayside. This is done at your own risk and only available on private chauffeured tours.

Note: If any social distancing regulations are brought back in then cusotmers will not be aloowed to have a go during this time.

Do you offer tours to Grantchester?

We do not offer standard tours to Grantchester.

When is the latest I can book?

You can book online up to 20 minutes before the departure time. Please ensure you allow enough time to reach us.

Can I bring my dog on board?

You are welcome to bring dogs on private tours. If joining a shared tour small well behaved dogs are welcome on laps.
